Season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi is happening and is in the works at Disney+ although it has not been officially renewed.
Speaking to Collider, star Ewan McGregor talked over ideas from 2016 when he was questioned about a possible return, and the chances of seeing the character return to the Star Wars franchise.
He said, “I started thinking that it might be a good idea, that there must be a great story between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.”
To put it simply: he would definitely be back for more. It looks like Ewan McGregor is completely devoted to this character.
“The first time I got dressed up as Obi-Wan again, it was a special moment.”
He continued, “I loved doing it. I loved working with Deborah Chow. I loved working with the new technology. And I thought our scripts were really good.”
So yes it’s a given that Obi-Wan Kenobi is returning with a second season.
When is Obi-Wan Kenobi Season Premiering?
The first season of Obi-Wan was released on May 27, 2022, and is still ongoing. The official release for the season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is not known but since it’s already in the works, fans can expect to see the new episodes by mid or late 2023.
“It was definitely conceived as a limited series and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end,” stated Deborah Chow director of the miniseries to Entertainment Weekly.
“It’s certainly something we talk about,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy described when inquired about a potential Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2. “Mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?”
