The third season of Virgin River wrapped on July 9, 2021, with a total of 10 episodes and now fans have been eagerly looking forward to another season.
The great news is, Netflix has officially greenlit the series for a fourth-season run.
Ginny Howe the giant streamer’s VP revealed to USA Today that “everything that’s been going on in the world, people more and more [are] looking for, not just that comfort, but also that feeling of hope and that feeling of community.”
“All of that really came together in a way that was really organic, and I think this was more of a proof point that this is a really vital area of programming for us.” She added.
“There is a sense of connection and intimacy that you have on the show that people crave in their own relationships,” added Alexandra Breckenridge who plays Melinda. She resumed, “During the pandemic, you’re not experiencing that as much, and so that connection became something people were craving.”
In November 2021, Martin Henderson – who portrays Jack – provided fans with information on how shooting on the fourth season was advancing, and shared a picture of himself on his Instagram profile in a voiceover recording studio.
“Doing a little post-production work on #virginriver season 4,” he penned. “Making sure it’s all smooth and satisfying for the best fans EVER! Y’all have a lovely weekend wherever you find yourselves.”
With that said, we assume that filming has been completed and is in the final stages of post-production, so it’s likely that fans will get to see the new season by this year at the earliest. To know more about the upcoming season, here is what we know about it.

Release Date of Virgin River Season 4: When will it premiere?
We’d hoped to see the new episodes soon but it was later revealed by Alexandra that filming for the fourth season was postponed and scheduled to commence in March 2022.
In an Instagram story Alexandra shared with the fans: “We were supposed to start in March but it’s been pushed so I don’t know. I’m hoping that maybe we’ll start in the summer. It would be nice to film in Vancouver in the summer rather than in the winter because to be quite frank with you guys, I’m pretty done filming in the winter.”
Coming back to the release date, the streamer is yet to confirm a specific air date. But if filming does get resumed in March, new episodes won’t arrive until the end of 2022. The fourth season will consist of 10-12 episodes.

The Plot of Virgin River Season 3: What to expect?
The upcoming fourth season of Virgin River is going to bring us a boat full of dramas and new storylines. We have compiled some information from the show’s cast and crew about what the plot would unveil in the next instalment. Show’s developer Sue Tenney disclosed to TV Insider: “There’s a big reveal when we open Season 4 that puts certain people in jeopardy.
The other exciting part is that we’ll get to find out the culprit who fired at Jack in the fourth season or so we think. Tenney via Entertainment Weekly said: “I always wanted it to be a slow burn. I liked the idea of putting Jack in a vulnerable situation, which is that he can’t remember something simple.” And in an interview with TV Insider, she revealed: “The person who pulled the trigger and wanted him dead are the same person, but Calvin and Jimmy and the failed raid in Season 2 and him getting shot all intersect with all the rest of it.” Alexandra Breckenridge (Melinda), chuckled to TV Insider: “Well, I know who shot Jack!” We sure want to know too but very soon.
Showrunner Tenney also pointed out in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly that Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) will have plenty of things to handle in the fourth season. With her giving birth to twins, her marriage and the forthcoming custody battle. “We have a pretty big bombshell for [Charmaine] coming in the following season…that’s going to blow everybody away.”
