Top Boy season 5 is happening! Release date, cast and more updates

Rest easy, Top Boy fans, as the fifth season has now been confirmed. Netflix has officially announced the confirmation of the fifth instalment!

Top Boy season 5: Will it be renewed or cancelled?

On Thursday 31st March 2022, Netflix confirmed that the series, which began on Channel 4, would return for one further and final season. So, make the most out of this season you guys, as season 5 will be the finale of the series!

Series stars Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson said: “For those that have followed the journey from the start, you will know how much this show means to everyone on our team and we wholeheartedly know how much it means to you. These characters have been a part of our lives for over a decade now and without everyone’s support we couldn’t have come this far.”

“Whilst the journeys of Dushane and Sully have remained at the core of the show, the new characters that have entered the world of Top Boy have become a key part of the show’s legacy, representing each new storyline in a raw, authentic way.”

“With all this being said, and staying true to our original goal, every story must have an ending and so season three will be our finale. A chance to come full circle and end the journey in the right way.”

“We’re very excited about what’s next and thank you for riding with us. We appreciate you. See you again soon,” they said.

That makes it pretty evident that Top Boy season 5 is happening! Continue reading to know about its release date.

Top Boy season 5 release date: When’s it going to air?

Top Boy season 4 landed on Netflix on 18th March 2022, with the new run consisting of eight episodes.

Top Boy season 5 spoilers: What can we expect from the plot?

In the last season, we saw that Dushane had proposed a partnership with Jamie, who is now behind bars after taking the fall for a crime he didn’t even commit.

Dushane and Sully’s friendship is at stake because Dushane framed Jamie’s brother. The last season also revealed that addicts Sarah and Lee were actually undercover agents who are investigating Dushane. So, the current top boy will likely feel the heat in season 5.

Top Boy’s creator and writer Ronan Bennett has also revealed that future episodes will continue to explore a more sensitive side to Sully, who was left reeling in season three after watching his friend/surrogate son Jason (Ricky Smarts) die in an arson attack.

“Certainly we’re taking that a step further in the new season!” Bennett said of Sully’s newly-glimpsed vulnerability.

What’s more, filmmaker Aneil Karia, who directed three episodes of season 3, previously teased what to expect in Top Boy season 4.

“I haven’t been on board with series 4 but I’m still close to everyone in that Top Boy family,” he told NME back in 2021. “I’m good friends with Kano and I speak to Ashley [Walters] as well so I’ve been hearing bits and bobs about it. As a fan, I’m really, really excited to see more. I know that all the old favourites [are back] but there are also some really exciting new characters. It sounds like they’re expanding the world in a really interesting way.”
