After more than a gap of two years, “The Great American Baking Show” is finally returning to television. But there’s a bit of a change. The reality show is not coming back to ABC for the upcoming season. Rather, the program is shifting to the Roku Channel, an online streaming platform accessible for free.
This reality television competition show is an adaptation of the US version “The Great British Bake Off.” Previously known as The “Great Holiday Baking Show,” the series introduces talented bakers from across the nation going against each other in various themed tasks and eliminations, and the last surviving contestant is crowned the ultimate winner of “America’s Best Amateur Baker.”
The fifth season featured a holiday edition with former Spice Girls Emma Bunton and Anthony “Spice” Adams, an NFL veteran hosting the show. Meanwhile, Sherry Yard, an acclaimed pastry chef, and Paul Hollywood a professional baker and author returned as the judges.
In the upcoming season, “The Great American Baking Show,” will once again seek to feature passionate, skilled bakers from across the country and only one among them will emerge as “America’s Best Amateur Baker.”
“We could not ask for a more perfect duo than Ellie and Zach to co-host The Great American Baking Show. Our adaptation of the iconic series will continue to dish out the enduring warmth and humor that fans of the Baking Show universe love, with a twist that we know Ellie and Zach will deliver,” Brian Tannenbaum, boss of Alternative Originals at Roku, explained in a statement. “The passion that fans have for this franchise is unmatched, and we’re so honored to kick off production with Love Productions USA to bring The Great American Baking Show exclusively to The Roku Channel.”
“The Great American Baking Show” marked its debut in November 30, 2015 on ABC and went on to air a total of five seasons and accumulated 32 episodes. The series normally circulated in December or January, packing in for programs that were on break. The last ABC episode was released back in January 2020. It appears that the network quietly terminated the reality program at some point and has since then withdrawn all episodes from the official press site and ABC website.
Nonetheless, it was earlier declared that “The Great American Baking Show” is returning on the Roku Channel for its new season. Although a specific release date is yet to be announced shortly. However, fans can likely expect the sixth season to be out sometime in 2023.
More details and official air dates will be notified in the future.
