The CW’s series The Flash will come to a halt in 2023.
The network declared openly on August 1, 2022, that The Flash will cease to function with its upcoming season 9, which will comprise 13 episodes.
“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor and spectacle,” executive producer Eric Wallace explained in a statement. “And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race. So many amazing people have given their talents, time and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”
Going forward into the ninth season of the popular series, Grant Gustin as Barry Allen aka The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, and Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost / Frost will be the only remaining three original cast members. Reportedly, Jesse L. Martin who plays the role of Joe West is taking a step back as a series regular as he is occupied with his NBC pilot. Aside from that, season 9 and also the final run will be another awesome action-packed series.
Well, eventually, many thought that the eighth season of The Flash was pretty much the last however, that wasn’t the case. Hence, the renewal announcement for season 9 came as a surprise to many fans
“I will say that I was very surprised to see that there was another season [ordered],” star Danielle Panabaker revealed to TVLine this May. “Emotionally, I, at least, was planning for Season 8 to be our last. But I’m grateful to the show and to the fans, and hopefully there’s more story to be told.”
Likewise, Robbie Amell talked about his mid-season comeback in the role of Deathstorm, “Essentially how it was pitched to me was, ‘This is the final season and we’d love to have you back.’” But ultimately everything had to be changed, Wallace later informed TVLine how the season 8 finale was rewritten to work as only a season finisher, rather than a series finale.
The anticipated upcoming ninth and final season is scheduled to begin production in September.
