The 100 is an American post-apocalyptic sci-fi television series that first premiered on March 19, 2014. The show became a hit and fans appreciated it so much. The previous season had a total of 16 episodes which is now available on Netflix. The seventh season and also the final season was a massive success and ranked fourth on the top streaming series chart.
Ever since the seventh season’s massive success, fans want more of the story. They want season 8 to return but unfortunately, we have bad news regarding The 100 season 8. The series’ seventh season was the ending of The 100 and there won’t be a season 8.
The seventh season was the final season of The 100 series with a total of 100 episodes combined with all seven seasons.
Let’s find out more in detail why The 100 season 8 won’t be happening.
The 100 season 8: Will it happen?
As per information, there hasn’t been any discussion or talks regarding the season’s eight return. Looks like the series is not even going to renew for another season as it was already confirmed that the seventh season was the end of The 100 series. So chances are bleak for season 8 to happen.
Jason Rothenberg, the series showrunner said that season 7 was the end of the series. It was their goal to finish the series with the seventh season.
CW president, Mark Pedowitz has already explained that he had few discussions with Jason to come up with ideas and what he plans to do with the series. More importantly, he also said that whatever Jason has come up with, is something they should stick to.
Instead of season 8, The 100 will feature a spin-off series.
What is The 100 spin-off series about?
The 100 spin-off series will pay more attention to the reality of the world. Jason plans to bring out some kind of flashbacks similar to the Lost Series. Also, the spin-off will be titled, “The 100: Second Dawn,” which will take place a couple of years after the events of the original series.
The 100 season 8 will not be returning and the confirmation of the spin-off isn’t sure either. We will have to wait for official announcements from the showrunners.
The 100 season 8: Why was it cancelled?
Reasons behind the show’s cancellation are scarce but back in August 2019, The 100 series was dropped because the show makers have already announced that they will “end the show after its hundredth episode.” The last episode of The 100 aired on September 30, 2020.
The creator Jason Rothenberg with Deadline and writers of The 100 series came up with a unanimous decision to end the series with the seventh season.
Obviously, fans were disappointed with the cancellation of the series by the show creator but we still hope that there’s more story to it for The 100 in the coming days.
In an interview with Rottenberg (via TVLine) he hinted that the show could come to “The CW, HBO Max or Netflix,” but it would mostly depend on fans to make it known that they want to see this show. He stated, “If you want it to happen, root loudly! We haven’t been picked up yet, and the hour is getting late. It may not happen. Ultimately, it’s going to be about word of mouth. Is the audience getting loud enough and tweeting at the right people the right way?”
Henceforth, Season 8 of The 100 won’t happen as the series has ended after the seventh season.
