Sweet Home is a South Korean horror television series based on the Naver Webtoon (online comic book) of the exact title by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan. The series was aired on Netflix on December 18, 2020.
Following the massive fame of the series “Sweet Home,” many K-drama lovers are anxiously waiting for its second season as the finale of the first season concluded on a major cliffhanger. Although the Netflix show is based on the Webtoon, the series adaptation is quite different and it has two new characters added to the series.
Well, if you haven’t read the webtoon, you probably won’t understand where this is coming from but the show’s storyline very much points in a different direction and of course, some may like it and some may not but so far so good. Henceforth, we just have to wait and see what happens in the end.
Also, given the popularity of the show, it’s obvious that the creators will return with the second season but when will we get to see it? We do not have a definite answer to that but certainly, we have compiled all the details that you need to know down below.
Sweet Home Season 2 Release Date: When is it?
Unfortunately, the release date for Season 2 of Sweet Home has not been declared at the moment although the show is renewed for a second season by Netflix.
According to recent reports, there were rumors that the series is set to begin filming by December 2021 and another rumor is that the upcoming season’s cast will consist of Lee Jin Wook, Song Kang, and Lee Si Young. However, the giant streamer ousted those baseless rumors. Netflix simply responded, “Nothing is confirmed.”
Coming back to the release date of the second season, the last season comprised 10 episodes in total. It approximately took about eight months to finish filming starting from June 2019- February 2020 and since the renewal status for the second season is still impending, we can only assume that it won’t arrive until 2023.
The Upcoming Cast of Sweet Home Season 2: Who Will Return?
For now, there’s no word on who will be returning in the upcoming season. The majority of the cast that appeared in the debut season are all dead and only a handful remains alive. Therefore, the central characters are still alive and kicking and we can expect them to return in season 2 of Sweet Home.
- Song Kang (as Cha Hyun-soo)
- Lee Jin-Wook (as Pyeon Sang-Wook)
- Lee Do-Hyun (as Lee Eun-hyeok)
- Seo Yi-Kyung (as Lee Si-young)
- Jeong Jae-heon (as Kim Nam-hee)
- Go Min-si (as Lee Eun-yoo)
- Yoon Ji-Su (as Park Kyu-young)
It’s also highly possible that new characters will be introduced in the second season if the story goes in the same direction as in the Naver Webtoon.
Sweet Home Season 2 Plot: Expectations
In the first season, it ended with the lead character, Cha Hyun-Soo being held captive only to conduct various experiments for his ability to stay conscious and remain completely human despite his monsterization process. On the contrary, the survivors are sent to a safe place, while Lee Eun Hyuk starts to transform into a monster.
Subsequently, the second season would focus on Hyun Soo and what kind of fate awaits him and his team. Furthermore, if the series adapts the Webtoon version, a fight will break out between humans and monsters. Likewise, both Hyun Soo and Eun Hyuk will completely turn into monsters before the humans could find a cure, or is there no cure at all? In the Webtoon, humans are being drowned by their own selfish desires which cause them to lose their consciousness and sanity; and thus, the process of monsterization takes over but it all depends on the creators if they want to avoid a tragic ending since Webtoon readers of Sweet Home have expressed their anger and disappointment on how it ended in the Webtoon version. For now, Let’s wait and see what will happen in the second season.
