Netflix travel documentary series “Somebody Feed Phil” has been officially ordered for a sixth season in May 2022 just before the release of the fifth season.
The five-episode fifth season of “Somebody Feed Phil” debuted on May 25, 2022, the season was filmed simultaneously with season six which will also comprise five episodes.
“We filmed 10 episodes in the sweet spot between Delta and Omicron. Remember that? So from August to January, we pretty much filmed everything,” presenter Philip Rosenthal informed Variety. “We only had to postpone one location because of Omicron, but we swapped in another one in the United States for that. And we’ll go back to [that other location eventually].”
Back when filming for season 4 just wrapped, Rosenthal said, “They’re premiering like an average of three new things a day on Netflix. So rather than have a lot of episodes of existing series, they like just new series, so that when you turn on your Netflix you see the little thumbnail of the poster. And the more new stuff you see, the more you think you’re getting the bang for your buck. And I understand that,” he told TheWrap. “
“So all that to say, I have no idea what’s gonna happen with the show. Of course, I want to do this for the rest of my life, only an idiot wouldn’t like to do it. And if I don’t do it there, I guess maybe I’ll try to do it elsewhere, but I then also have to see how the world is. I honestly believe we will get back to travel because the moment there is a safe vaccine that works, we’re all gonna take it and we’re all gonna go.”
Along with the renewal announcement, Netflix also detailed a few of the sites that Rosenthal will visit during this impending season, locations such as Croatia, Philadelphia, Nashville, Santiago, and Austin.
Also, fans are urged to look forward to a “special tribute episode” in honor of Philip Rosenthal’s parents, Helen and Max Rosenthal, who frequent the series—with Philip phoning them after each episode to inform them about his culinary expeditions—until their demises in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Philip’s brother, Rich serves as the showrunner, so it’s almost like the whole family is involved. The recent episodes have now shifted to ending the episode with Philip calling some of his famous pals, instead.
“Somebody Feed Phil” is scheduled to premiere on October 18, 2022, on Netflix.
