Shrek 5’ is an approaching American animated fantasy movie directed by Andrews Adamson and written by Michael McCullers and Christopher Meledandri based on the picture book by William Steig.
Sherk’s first movie made its debut in 2001. Followed by Shrek 2 which was equally adored and well appreciated by fans when the film was released in May 2004. Jeffrey Katzenberg, one of the co-founders, revealed that there will be five movies in the series, and in 2007, Shrek 3 was released. However, in 2010, Dreamworks released Shrek Forever After The Final Chapter. So, fans assumed that the franchise was done for good but at the same time, we still wondered if there will be the fifth instalment in the future. But now, the wait is finally over!

Shrek 5 Release date
Shrek 5 is happening and is officially on its way. The movie is scheduled to hit the big screens on May 20, 2023.
When the untitled movie was first announced, Chris Meledandri who’ll be serving as executive producer said, “There’s a tremendous amount of fun to be had in that world, but it’s a high bar to find a story that’s truly worthy. You want to find something in the narrative that really feels like a departure.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael McCullers who is serving as the new writer in the upcoming untitled movie ‘Shrek’ had verified the script is completed.
“It’s really personal to me,” said McCullers. “It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal, but since DreamWorks was sold to Universal in that time for over $3 billion, I imagine they’re particularly interested in it stepping up and actually figuring out the future of the franchise in that way on the corporate level. Reinvention was sort of called for. There’s been four movies and a lot of material, so the characters are pretty beloved and they’re great characters, but you also have to think of a pretty new take at that point.”

Shrek 5 Plot
The plot for the upcoming movie Shrek 5 is still not known. We are clueless about where the Shrek franchise will direct the movie to. For now, we’ll have to wait for more details until the film goes into the mid-stages in development.
However, some fans think that the movie Shrek 5 would be a sequel of the franchise, while others believe Shrek 5 is a reboot or somewhat a spinoff of the original series.
According to ScreenRant, Jeffrey Katzenberg previously mentioned that Shrek 5 will likely have a straight connection to the original movie series and the story will follow on “how Shrek came to be in the swamp.”
Michael McCullers also gave us a hint that the storyline of the fifth Shrek movie has “a pretty big reinvention.” Moreover, Jeffrey Katzenberg stated that in Shrek 5 they’re bringing back the villain, Lord Farquaad.
Meanwhile, in Shrek 5, the characters are highly expected to remain the same but the filmmakers will for sure introduce a new storyline and theme and maybe some new cast members additions too. And whether or not the upcoming movie is a reboot or a sequel, so far it has not been confirmed yet.
Collider reported that Shrek 5 will be more thrilling and attractive and will have more adventures than the previous sequels.
