Prometheus is one of the most outstanding science fiction movies ever made. The movie also achieved numerous accolades and excellent reviews from critics for its performance and mind-blowing designs when it was released in 2012.
Directed by Ridley Scott, the film features Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron. Prometheus collected a whopping $403 million at the box office and the second movie, “Alien: Covenant”, collected over $240 million worldwide.
It’s been over five years since the franchise released the sequel and fans can’t help but wonder why a third movie hasn’t been released following the success of the first two films.
Here is everything you need to know about Prometheus 3:
Will there be a 3rd movie of Prometheus?
Because there hasn’t been any concrete information, it’s unclear whether the third movie of Prometheus will happen. It also appears that many fans are anxiously awaiting new updates about the franchise.
Given the success of the previous two movies, it’s likely that the franchise will return with another movie although we don’t exactly know when but it will probably take at least a few more years until fans finally get to see the third instalment.
In an interview with Forbes, director Ridley Scott teased the prospect of the franchise and confessed that a new movie, while in preparation, isn’t possible to reanalyze the worlds set up by “Prometheus” (2012) and “Alien: Covenant” (2017).
“That’s in process. We went down a route to try and reinvent the wheel with ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Covenant,’” he explained. “Whether or not we go directly back to that is doubtful because ‘Prometheus’ woke it up very well. But you know, you’re asking fundamental questions like, ‘Has the Alien himself, the facehugger, the chestburster, have they all run out of steam? Do you have to rethink the whole bloody thing and simply use the word franchise?’ That’s always the fundamental question.”
Prometheus 3 Release Date: When is it?
As of now, there’s no specific release date for Prometheus 3.
Back in 2020, Ridley Scott also disclosed similar notions about a new movie with the Los Angeles Times. “I still think there’s a lot of mileage in ‘Alien,’ but I think you’ll have to now re-evolve,” Scott told. “What I always thought when I was making it, the first one, why would a creature like this be made and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs. What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That’s the thing to question — who, why, and for what purpose is the next idea, I think.”
So, if a third flick happens, it is expected that the film would arrive somewhere in 2023 or 2024.
