Created by David O’Leary, Project Blue Book is an American sci-fi historical period drama TV series that was launched on the History Channel on January 8, 2019. The series stars Aidan Gillen, Michael Malarkey, Laura Mennell, Ksenia Solo, Michael Harney, and Neal McDonough. The lead role of Dr. J Allen Hynek is portrayed by Aidan Gillen, and the debut season comprises 10 episodes.
The series is heavily inspired by the true-life Project Blue Book, a recorded study on UFOs performed by the United States Air Force. Project Blue Book was renewed for a second season by History on February 10, 2018, and was released with a total of ten episodes on January 21, 2020.
However, much to the dismay of many fans, it was declared openly in May 2020 that the series had been axed. A petition was published on May 7, 2020, to support the showrunners in seeking a new streaming service for the series. But so far there has been no luck. Presently, it’s not known if the series will ever be picked by other streaming platforms. However, we do have high hopes given how the fans have been trying so hard to bring back the show.
About the show
The story follows the true-life Project Blue Book, a confidential series of research for what is believed to have supposedly UFO sightings and indescribable happenings executed by the United States Air Force along with a specialist and a professor named Dr. J Allen Hynek during the 1950s and 1960s.
With his companion, Captain Michael Quinn an Air Force veteran, together they examine sightings around the United States., and Dr. Allen Hynek finds out that not everything can be deciphered by science alone.
Why Was the Project Blue Book Cancelled?
According to executive producer Sean Jablonski, History’s judgment to remove the series from the channel was not based on the ratings or performance. Moreover, the third season storyline was beginning to take form. Henceforth, History decided to cancel the show and stop all programs. Currently, the series still stands canceled. This amazing show which garnered a large fan base has thus come to an end with no signs of ever returning but one can never say never as anything can happen in the distant future.

As previously mentioned, the series has been canceled by History. Fans of this show have started petitioning to bring back the show on various social media platforms with the hashtag “Save Project Blue Book.” At this point, all we can do is cling to the hope that the series finds a new home and gets renewed for a whole new season.
