Helmed by Chris Columbus and produced by Mark Radcliffe, Allen Covert, and Adam Sandler, Pixels is a science fiction action comedy film that was released on July 24, 2015. The film stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson, Sean Bean, and Jane Krakowski. It is an adaptation of the 2010 short film of the exact title by Patrick Jean. The narration was jotted down by Time Herlihy and Timothy Dowling from a web story by Herlihy.
The film emphasized heavy elements of computer-animated game characters and visual effects. The official synopsis as per Sony Pictures Entertainment states: “When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games like PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede and Space Invaders as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler) to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.”
Upon release, the film received mainly negative reviews and collected over $243 million across the globe against a budget of $88 million to $129 million. So considering how it performed at the box office and also the fact that it’s been seven years since the movie came out, can we still expect a sequel? Here’s what we know about the Pixels sequel.
Will There Be a Sequel to Pixels?
When Pixels came out in 2015, it was deemed one of Adam Sandler’s most critically ridiculed films and one of the biggest flops of the year. Despite the movie’s fun comedic elements blended with sci-fi action, it is considered to be sexist, corny and cliche and wasn’t really funny at all. Needless to say, the film received harsh criticisms from the audience and critics alike. So at this point, we’re clueless if the filmmakers are willing to return with a sequel, and since no announcements have been made concerning a sequel, the future remains uncertain.
Pixels 2 Release Date: When is it
Even though the first movie was out like seven years ago, there is no concrete information or update about a potential sequel to Pixels. The film did not do well and was a huge flop of the year if we all consider this, there certainly won’t be a sequel but at the same time, we know about it because the filmmakers may want to do a sequel, and this time with better direction and CGI effects.
So if ever a sequel happens, we can expect the new film to arrive sometime in 2023.
