Directed by Brillante Mendoza and penned by Troy Espiritu, “Amo” is a Philippine crime drama TV series that was produced under TV5 Network and was released on August 5, 2017. Netflix later acquired distribution rights and the series was launched for a wider audience which premiered on August 9, 2018. It stars Derek Ramsay, Vince Rillon, Allen Dizon, and Felix Roco.
Upon release, the series became a center of attraction surrounding its controversy for showcasing the infamous drug war that cost many lives in the Philippines.
Prior to the release of “Amo,” the ANPUD (Asian Network of People Who Use Drugs) and the INPUD (International Network of People who Use Drugs) discharged an open statement against the program conveying worries that “Amo” allegedly “promotes and endorses murder and violence in the Philippines.” The statement asserts “there is an ongoing human rights catastrophe in the Philippines that has seen tens of thousands murdered, all driven by President Duterte’s war on drugs,” and deeply shows vexation that the entire clash that took place in the Philippines “is not the stuff of fun and entertainment. These are real people, real lives. Real murders.”
Speaking to The Telegraph, series director Mendoza refuted that the program promotes the drug-related clash of the Philippines, contending, “I have this feeling that because I am doing a series against illegal drugs that people are prejudging it … It will pass through different points of view, different perspectives, depending on the subject matter that we are dealing with.”
So with all the controversies surrounding the show can the fans still expect a season 2 of Amo? Let’s find out below
Amo Season 2 Release Date: When is it?
Currently, there’s been no news about season 2 of Amo and is neither canceled or renewed. The show’s reputation was greatly affected by the controversy it brought upon releasing its first season. However, since it’s neither been canceled nor renewed, there’s still a tiny bit of chance for the show to return for another season although it’s been four years already since it last aired on the screen.
