NCIS Season 19: Release date, Plot and more you need to know!

Yo folks! Are y’all excited for the nineteenth renewal of the NCIS series? Well, so are we.

However, we’ve got some good and bad news for you. The good news is that NCIS is back for another season. The bad news is, Mark Harmon, who plays Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs exited after five episodes. And, it isn’t clear if he will turn up again. Saddd.

Although the executive producer Steven D. Binder said, “Regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years…never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.” But he did exit and now we’ve lost our precious!

Meanwhile, Meredith Eaton is returning to the show as immunologist Carol Wilson. “We’re beyond excited to be able to work with Meredith Eaton again,” executive producer Steven D Binder previously said. “She’s an amazing actor, who brings a wonderful energy to our show. Since her last guest appearance in season 11, we’ve been chomping at the bit to have her back whenever her schedule allows.”

Here’s everything we know about NCIS season 19, including its renewal status, premiere date, cast, and other updates!

NCIS season 19 renewed or canceled?

NCIS season 19 has already been renewed with the episodes on the air. Production on the new season began, as series co-star Brian Dietzen noted “Work starts up next week!” in an Instagram post dated July 9, 2021.

NCIS season 19 cast?

As aforementioned, Gibbs will no longer be a member of the franchise. He has decided to stay in Alaska, where he has been able to find peace after a real long time. As disheartening as it is, it’s true. This marks the end of an 18 year run for Gibbs on the show.

CBS and the NCIS creatives were mum on whether he may appear in guest roles somewhere down the line. But it’s pretty much clear that Harmon Gibbs’ return won’t be seen.

Here is the rest of the NCIS team for season 19:

  • Sean Murray – Timothy McGee
  • Wilmer Valderrama – Nick Torres
  • Brian Dietzen – Jimmy Palmer
  • Diona Reasonover – Kasie Hines
  • Rocky Carroll – Leon Vance
  • David McCallum – Donald Mallard

NCIS season 19 plot?

The synopsis for the first episode reveals that the show is picking up right where it left off last season. It reads: “As the NCIS team searches for Gibbs after wreckage from his boat is discovered, they find out he was tracking a serial killer with journalist Marcie Warren (Pam Dawber [Harmon’s real-life wife]), who wrote an exposé on him.”

In a TV Line interview, series co-showrunner Steven D. said: “Gibbs has been hunting down this serial killer. He’s cut off from his team… but in the beginning episodes, that’s going to change.”

In an interview during a Television Critics Association event, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl said of the question of how much Mark Harmon will appear in the new season: “Mark’s always been part of the show, Mark’s always going to be part of the show. In terms of his on-air appearances, we’re just going to have to see how it plays out going forward.”

How many episodes are there in NCIS season 19?

NCIS regularly receives a full 24 episode order. However, seasons 17 and 18 were shortened by the coronavirus pandemic to 20 episodes and 16 episodes respectively. The same 24 episodes format was adhered to for season 19.

What time is NCIS on?

In fall 2021, after 18 years on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT, NCIS moved to Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT as the lead in for the newest show in the franchise, NCIS: Hawai’i.
