Created by R.B. Carney, Cal Coons, and Alexandra Zarowny, Murdoch Mysteries is a Canadian period drama crime mystery television series that debuted on Citytv on January 20, 2008, and is broadcast on CBC. The series is heavily inspired by characters from a book titled “Detective Murdoch” written by Maureen Jennings that features Yannick Bisson as the protagonist who plays William Murdoch, the prolific detective working in Toronto, Ontario in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In the initial days, the series was called “The Artful Detective” on the Ovation network in the US, until the twelfth season. Along with Bisson, it also stars Hélène Joy, Thomas Craig, Jonny Harris, Georgina Reilly, and Shanice Banton.
Set in Toronto in the year 1985, the series revolves around Detective William Murdoch of the Toronto Constabulary, who successfully solves plenty of his cases utilizing rare techniques of detection which seemed quite odd at the time. These techniques include such as finger-marks, blood tests, surveillance, and tracing of clues.
