Maid is a Netflix original miniseries based on a memoir by Stephanie Lands’s “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive.” The series is created by Molly Smith Metzler that aired on October 1, 2021.
When Maid first aired on Netflix it became an instant hit and managed to be in the Top 5 Shows most-watched in many territories. In terms of rating, it scored 93% on Rotten Tomatoes approved with a decent rating of 8.3 out of 10 based on 42 voters.
Seemingly, fans loved watching the series and as reported by Deadline, Maid is climbing its way to take the crown of “Netflix’s most-watched limited scripted series.” This doesn’t come as a surprise because this show is very heartwarming and it enables you to perceive things in a much different way after seeing it.
Since Maid is a limited series, many fans thought it’d be done after the first season but given the show’s huge popularity, the second season of Maid has to be in some kind of development because this series is just so amazing and impactful.
If you have binge-watched the series, we’re certain that you’re curious about the prospect of the series as much as we do. But fret not, Netflix will bring back the series for a next season run that’s what we wish and here’s what we know about Maid Season 2 release date, cast, and more.
Will There Be a Season 2 of Maid?
Undoubtedly, the series “Maid” was a huge hit when it debuted on Netflix and since then fans have been quite anxious to find out whether or not the drama series will be back for another season. Well, unfortunately, there’s been no concrete news about season two from the show makers or Netflix. Nevertheless, the series has not even been renewed yet for a new season despite having the first season released over a year ago. First of all, Maid is considered as a mini series and in most of the cases, mini series usually wrap up the entire story in a single season and that is it. So we cannot expect much at this point but considering there are many fans wanting to see more of it, we can never say never. What we can do right now is to wait patiently for further announcements concerning the much anticipated new season. Stay tuned!
Maid Season 2 Release Date: When Will It Arrive?
The streamer hasn’t declared whether the series will return for a second season run though for now, it’s neither renewed nor canceled. But looking back at how the first season wrapped can we really expect a second season? That’s for Netflix to decide but also if we consider in terms of marketing, the streamer will likely renew the series for a second installment.
If we have to guess the release date given the renewal by Netflix, we can expect the second season to arrive in late 2022 or mid-2023.
The Cast of Maid Season 2: Who Will Return?
If new episodes are in the works, we’d expect all the characters that appeared in the first season to return in the upcoming season of Maid. The following names are—
- Margaret Qualley (as Alex)
- Nick Robinson (as Sean)
- Rylea Nevaeh Whittet (as Maddy)
- Anika Noni Rose (as Regina)
- Tracy Vilar (as Yolanda)
- Billy Burke (as Hank)
- Andie MacDowell (as Paula)
Star Andie MacDowell previously chatted to Collider about her position as Alex’s mother and stated that “She [Margaret] knew that I’ve had personal experiences with mental illness because my mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia right after I was born and had shock treatments, and then came home to be really left alone. They didn’t have a support system back then. It was an embarrassment to have any kind of mental illness. So I grew up in this really crazy environment, and Margaret knew that.”
“I think we worked really well together. When I saw it, I was blown away by her performance,” Andie McDowell also talked of her daughter.
She also talked about her expectations for where Alex, Paula, and Maddy’s tales would direct if Maid gets a next season run, and if Paula would pay a visit to her daughter and granddaughter.
“We (Andie MacDowell and Margaret Qualley) talked about that. She was like, ‘What do you think?’ I was like, ‘No, she’s gonna come. She’s not gonna stay but she’s gonna come. She’ll show up in a Winnebago. She’s gotta see her granddaughter. She’s gonna come. She won’t stay but she’ll come.”
Additionally, we can also expect to see new characters in the next season.
Maid Season 2 Plot: What To Expect?
If Maid renews for a second season, there’s a high chance that the story will not just concentrate on Alex but on the other important characters as well. In October 2021, the creator Molly Smith Metzler disclosed to Decider that she would not focus the story entirely on Alex but would introduce a new lead character for the upcoming season.
“I will say this is such a labor of love, this show,” said Smith Metzler. I’m in love with all these characters, and I could write Alex for the rest of my life. You know, she’s just in my heart. But I do feel like we tell her story, so I’m not sure what it would look like.”
“I do think there’s a lot of maids out there, there’s a lot of domestic workers who are experiencing stories that are as bad, if not worse than, Stephanie Lands,” she explained. “I think it would be very exciting and a dream world to get to see a different maid’s story in another season. Someone from a totally different geographic area with totally different life experience and who is probably a mom.”
With the new season, there will be new challenges for Alex as she’ll try to overcome her traumatic past and treat herself to heal and become a better person.
