After a dramatic ending in the sixth season of Line of Duty which aired back in March 2021, fans of this incredible show have been anxiously awaiting a new season ever since then. But what are the chances for the series to return with another season? Is the series coming back for more? Let’s find out.

There is no denying that “Line of Duty” is one of the hottest and most popular series right now and if you haven’t watched it yet, I’d reckon you to add it to your watch list. Every season delivered is a huge success and is worth binging. So what are you waiting for? 

As for the seventh season of Line of Duty, it’s not certain yet. In a recent interview with The Guarding star Vicky McClure was interrogated whether or not the AC-12 will make a return to which she responded: “I don’t know! I don’t know, there’s no word for it. I think we’ve all been really honest and said should that happen, we’re all game.”

The English actress further added that she’ll undoubtedly be on board if the series creator Jed Mercurio and fellow cast members Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar are eager too.

“I’ll just stick with the guys,” she asserted. “I think when it comes to a close, it will be a natural close for us all.”

Earlier, it was also disclosed that creator Mercurio has been planning about making a new season. But according to what we heard, it might probably take a while for production to begin since the Covid-19 pandemic greatly affected the sixth season’s production. 

The release date for Line of Duty Season 7: When will it premiere?

When it comes to the release date, not much is known. Needless to say, BBC is yet to commission the show for another season run. As per Piers Wenger, the man in charge of commissioning drama for BBC stated that showrunner Jed Mercurio had not committed to penning the script for any episodes presently. 

“I would love to see both [Line of Duty and Bodyguard] return,” Wenger said at a press event for the BBC drama showcase last autumn. “You know, Jed is thinking but I can’t really say much more than that. He hasn’t committed to writing either of them.”

Wenger further added the showrunner would take a while to create a new series when Covid-19 settles down as “production was particularly impacted in the making of series six”.

So if the series returns with a new season, fans can expect to see it by the end of this year or sometime in 2023. 

The cast of Line of Duty Season 7: Who’s in it?

Currently, we’re not certain if the series will return with the seventh season. In an interview with the Radio Times, the Chief Content Officer of BBC Charlotte Moore disclosed she’s delighted to talk about the prospect of the show with the showrunner. “Jed Mercurio is a master of his craft, and I would like to congratulate him and the entire cast and crew for delivering such an incredible drama series.” She added; “I’m looking forward to having a conversation with the team about where we go next and what the future of the series might be.”

But for sure we’d expect Vicky McClure (as Kate Fleming), Martin Compston (as Steve Arnott), Adrian Dunbar (as Ted Hastings) to return in the next season. It’s likely that viewers will also get to see Shalom Brune-Franklin (as Chloe Bishop), Anna Maxwell Martin (as Patricia Carmichael).

The plot of Line of Duty Season 7: What to expect?

There are no concrete details when it comes to the plot and it’s difficult to predict what could go down in the upcoming seventh season. But the good news is that all the main characters are alive and kicking. 

In the next season, viewers might probably get to see who the main suspect is and the H thing will be revealed and we highly suspect the OCG is not to be defeated that easily so we can expect more turn of events and drama.

In a recent interview, Daniel Mays who portrayed Sergeant Danny Waldron indicated that the entire H story isn’t finished.

Mays appeared on ITV’s and disclosed that he believes that AC-12 haven’t caught H yet. He confessed that he assumes DCI Marcus Thurwell isn’t dead and he could be the one behind controlling the OCG. Without a doubt, it’s going to be another great season if the 8th season happens.
