Disney is popularly known for creating live-action movies, and it didn’t take long for the house of mouse to add another movie filled with excitement and adventures and this time it was none other than Jungle Cruise which is based on theme park enticement of the exact title produced by Walt Disney Pictures. 

Jungle Cruise was released in July 2021 and was a box office hit, collecting more than $210 million worldwide. It stars Emily Blunt, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Whitehall. With the first movie’s success, it’s no surprise that Disney would move forward with another sequel. Let’s find out the deets below!

Is The Sequel to Jungle Cruise Confirmed?

It was confirmed that Jungle Cruise 2, a sequel to the original, is officially happening and is currently in the works. Jaime Collet-Serra will helm the upcoming sequel, which also directed the first movie, along with Michael Green, who is also back to pen the script. However, it’s going to take a while for Jungle Cruise 2 to hit the theatres. Here’s what we know about the Jungle Cruise release date, cast, and more. 

Jungle Cruise 2 Release Date: When is Jungle 2 hitting the theatres?

Though it was confirmed several months ago that a sequel is happening, an official release date has not been provided so far. It’s quite understandable since filming hasn’t even begun yet. It’s also worth noting that Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are quite busy with other projects, and so it stays unspecific when shooting for the sequel will finally commence.

If shooting begins by this year, the sequel will likely arrive by between mid or end of 2023 at the earliest.

Actor Dwayne Johnson after learning the news, expressed his excitement to return in the upcoming sequel on his Instagram and that he was looking forward to getting back to work and thanked the fans for watching Jungle Cruise. Here’s what he said:

THANK YOU and your families around the world for discovering and loving our film ~ in theaters and in your living rooms. And a HUGE MAHALO for making JUNGLE CRUISE cross that $100M mark at the US box office. JUNGLE CRUISE is only the 4th movie of 2021 to achieve that milestone. Not an easy accomplishment these days, so thank you guys so much! Let’s get this sequel on the road….Jaume Collet-Serra back to direct. Michael Green back to write. And I get to tag along as Emily Blunt’s sidekick.” And we’d never get tired of seeing these power duo as they gear up to venture on more new fun-filled adventures.

The cast of Jungle Cruise 2: Who will be in it?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s confirmed that Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt will be reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel as Frank Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton respectively. It’s unknown for now whether Jack Whitehall, who played as MacGregor, Houghton’s brother, will return in the next sequel. But we hope that he does as his character plays a significant role in building up the story though it all depends on the director and the scriptwriter.

Currently, it’s not revealed or confirmed if new characters will be introduced, but it’s likely possible.

Jungle Cruise 2 Plot: What could the story of Jungle Cruise 2 be about?

Plot details are pretty much kept under wraps as of now. However, we’d expect that the upcoming sequel will follow the story from the book and begin on a fresh story probably with new characters involved rather than focusing on the old story.

Jungle Cruise 2 Producer Hiram Garcia teased on the upcoming sequel that Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt’s characters will be so much fun with intriguing stories. 

Speaking to The Wrap Garcia revealed on what the fans can expect in the upcoming movie. “I think one thing fans can expect is our heroes covering more territory. Our first movie mainly went between London and the Amazon, but for this next adventure we have much bigger plans. That coupled with the joy of seeing how Frank and Lily’s relationship continues to evolve are just a few of the many things we’ve been having fun playing with as we break the story.”

 

The first movie ended after they had completed their adventure and with nothing much left to do. What happens next?

Well, here’s exactly why Jungle Cruise 2 producer, Garcia, foresaw fans would want to learn, and explained that the upcoming sequel has many options in an exclusive conversation with ScreenRant.

“Now that the fans have embraced us and have been asking for a sequel, we really start to have fun! We’ve met these two characters who share amazing chemistry and the world is at our disposal. We’re talking about a lot of big, fun concepts that take us to different places in the world. Who knows what mysteries and supernatural things these guys are going to encounter? I can’t give anything away, but I can tell you we are bringing the whole team back. Through the first film, we formed great friendships and love and I think this will continue for the sequel. Our established relationships are going to benefit the film even more. We’re excited with all the ideas we’ve been brainstorming on, and we’re determined to get going as fast as possible.”
