Grey’s Anatomy Season 19: Release Date, Cast, and Other Updates

Great news for the fans as they eagerly await another season of Grey’s Anatomy. Finally, it’s been confirmed that there will be one more season of this popular medical drama series and we’re here for it.

 

On January 20, 2022, ABC declared that star Ellen Pompeo and showrunner / executive producer Krista Vernoff have renewed their contracts for the nineteenth season, putting an end to speculations and rumors that the program has come to an end.

 

Vernoff stated: “I’m eager to work with our outstanding writers to imagine where we go from here, and I’m always grateful to our partners at Disney and ABC for allowing us to explore bold tales with real effect.’”

 

“For the sake of Meredith, Bailey, Richard and all the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, I couldn’t be more excited that we get to continuing telling their stories for another season,” Shonda Rhimes, who passed on the show over to Kristan Vernoff in Season 14, told in a statement.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Release Date: When Is It?

 

Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest-running series on ABC and has proven to be a huge success and so far maintained stable ratings and viewerships.

 

Speaking to Deadline, Craig Erwich, head of ABC Ent. and Hulu Originals was asked if season 19 would be the final outing of the series, to which he responded: 

 

“Grey’s Anatomy has maintained its position as a ratings powerhouse. This season was a hit with the audience. It seemed to me that Grey’s Anatomy did an absolutely great job this season of portraying the story about all of the frontline heroes who are waging the good fight (against Covid). We’ll watch Grey’s Anatomy for as long as we can,” said Erwich.

 

In an interview, Dana Walden, the chairman of Walt Disney Television also said: “‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is a true phenomenon, beloved by audiences around the world, Whether they catch it live on ABC, or stream it on Hulu or globally on Disney Plus or Star Plus, it’s clear that fans can’t get enough of Shonda Rhimes’ brilliant creation.”

 

She added: “We have enormous faith in Shonda, Krista Vernoff, Ellen Pompeo, and the entire creative team to unlock new, untold stories that will continue to focus on modern medicine, tackle the issues that shape the world around us, and resonate deeply with loyal fans for years to come.”

 

As for the release date, it’s not confirmed by ABC yet but fans can expect the new season sometime in 2023.

 

The Cast of Grey’s Anatomy Season 19: Who Will Return?

 

It’s confirmed that three of the original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Picken Jr. will return as Meredith Gray, Miranda Bailey, and Richard Webber respectively in the upcoming 19th season. 

 

Other casts who have renewed their contracts and are expected to return are Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman, Camilla Luddington as Dr. Jo Wilson, and Kevin McKidd as Dr. Owen Hunt. While the rest of the cast as seen in the last season are yet to be confirmed but it’s safe to say that most of them will be reprising their roles including–  Kelly McCreary in the role of Dr. Maggie Pierce, Caterina Scorsone portrayed Amelia Shepherd, Jake Borelli portrayed Levi Schmitt,  Richard Flood portrayed Dr. Cormac Hayes, Chris Carmack portrayed Dr. Atticus Lincoln, Scott Speedman portrayed Dr. Nick Marsh. And Anthony Hill portrayed Dr. Winston Ndugo.
