Gremlins is an American comedy horror movie helmed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus and Charles S. Haas for the 1984 original movie and the 1990 sequel respectively. It depicts myths of folkloric deviant creatures known as the gremlins that spur havoc on the British royal air force taking off to the second world war.
It stars Zach Galligan (as Billy Peltzer and Phoebe Cates (as Kate Beringer), alongside Howie Mandel as the voice of Gizmo, the central Mogwai character. The story revolves around a Billy Peltzer who adopts an odd-looking creature to raise as a pet, it then breeds other creatures who evolved into little yet violent and hostile monsters that inflict chaos on the entire city during Christmas Eve.
It’s been decades since we last saw the Gremlins movie. Several reports indicated that there have been discussions on Gremlins 3 which surfaced online but so far there have not been any solid developments. Back in 2015, actor Zach Galligan was skeptical that there would even be the next sequel. He mentioned that the first movie essayist, Chris Columbus, would never agree to do a reboot or remake because he preferred to loosen a few of the scenes that appeared in Gremlins 2.
Several years later, Columbus declared he had penned the script. He didn’t reveal if it’s for Gremlins 3 or the spinoffs. Henceforth, it’s not known if Gremlins 3 will even happen, and Warner Bros is yet to formally confirm the much-awaited sequel. Here’s everything we know about Gremlins 3 release date, cast, and more.

Gremlins 3 Release Date: When Is It?
Gremlins 3 is still yet to be confirmed, although it might take some time before we finally hear an official announcement.
Fans have been waiting for many years to get any sort of Gremlins content from the franchise, so fans can expect to see the series first. With that said, it’s very much likely that Warner Bros will take a decision depending on the performance of the series.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly regarding the highly anticipated Gremlins 3, director Galligan stated: “These puppets were just as good as the original, if not better, which is funny because that’s the Mountain Dew Zero Sugar tagline: ‘Just as good as the original. If Warner Bros. decided to do Gremlins 3, my feeling was that it would be exponentially easier this time around than it was the first time. The first time, if there was a wire or a cable or something [showing] you had to scrap the entire take. Now, if you got a great take with a wire or a cable you just CGI it out. So, my guess is, it would be five to ten times easier to do it than we did [for 1984’s original Gremlins] in ’83.”
Also in a chat with ScreenRant, Zach Galligan was asked if he has mentioned several times and if has an idea for the third movie of Gremlins, to which Galligan responded, “Yes. I have many ideas for Gremlins 3. I’ve had three decades to think about it.”
Coming back to the release date for Gremlins 3, it’s hard to predict an exact air date as nothing has been said about the movie’s arrival so far but we do know that the much-anticipated movie Gremlins 3 is coming out sometime in 2023. But when do we exactly expect to see it? Maybe the movie will fall somewhere in mid or late 2023. And honestly, that’s all we know. We also have no idea if the cast members have started filming but if they did we might have gotten some sort of an update or they’re keeping everything under wraps for now. So let’s see what happens next. (Updated on 11/19/2022)

Gremlins 3 Plot: Expectations
When it comes to the storyline Galligan revealed to ScreenRant that the threequel will be more “darker.”
“The nice thing about it is, because the two movies are so different, you really can go a number of ways with it. I know that Chris Columbus has hinted that on the Gremlins 3 script that he’s written, he’s going to go darker and more of a Batman tone. It’s a lot darker and more adult and gloomier and scarier – just more menacing. Which is a good way to go, because we haven’t done one of those.”
He further added, “There’s been elements of that in the first one, like the kitchen scene with my mom, or them hatching up in the attic. Those are dark things. Killing my science teacher, ejecting Mrs. Deagle through the window – although a lot of people laugh at that, it’s actually pretty horrific.”
Recent reports disclosed that Carl Ellsworth is the man in charge to come up with the script alongside Chris Columbus who previously penned the original Gremlins movie, and is on board to serve as a screenwriter for Gremlins 3.
In an interview, Carl Ellsworth has dropped hints on what to expect from the upcoming sequel. He explained, “These little creatures…they’re cold-blooded little murderers, you know? They’re psychotic little creatures that are killing everybody. So that’s where it all started….I tried to preserve the humor, but at the same time, I was starting with the foundation of this being a horror movie, which I was really thrilled about…Gizmo was at the very core of the story; it explored more of the mythology and the history of the Gremlins.”
In addition to that, talking about the next sequel Columbus teases that the movie could witness the death of Gizmo to prevent the raid of Gremlins.
