Released back in 2018, Crazy Rich Asians became the crazy hit of the summer! 

Crazy Rich Asians is a romance, comedy-drama film that aired on HBO Max. It centres on a young NYU economics professor. She finds out that her boyfriend comes from one of the richest families in Singapore, and well, the rest is history. The movie was appreciated a lot by the audiences and critics. It scored a 6.9 rating on IMDB and 90 per cent on rotten tomatoes. Along with the keen plot, the actors did a fantabulous job, which rendered the show grossed $200 million worldwide. Gee.

Ever since the film debuted, it was an instant hit! Now fans are awaiting the release of the sequel. So, what do you think: when’s it gonna air? Who’s gonna be in the star cast? Crazy Rich Asians Season 2: Is it Happening? 

 

There is no concrete information whether or not  a sequel to Crazy Rich Asians will happen. But it was recently reported that the production was looking for a new writer as Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim have departed from the writing duties. Deadline reported back in March 2022, that Amy Wang (Brother’s Sun, From Scratch) will be taking over as the new writer. However, it looks like the sequel still meets another challenge which is the cast members availability.

 

“We do have a writer … but now I think the big challenge is everyone getting back together,” Henry Golding told Access Hollywood at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party.

 

The star-studded cast has been busy with other projects since the massive success of the film “Crazy Rich Asians.” 

 

Nonetheless, the team of Crazy Rich Asians originally intended to film both the second and third films simultaneously in 2020 to adjust the limited availability of its cast. But because of the global pandemic at the time, the project had to be postponed. 

When’s the release date for Crazy Rich Asians 2? 

As of now, no official announcements have been made regarding the release date for Crazy Rich Asians 2. We reckon it’s due to Covid that the release date is postponed. Because in an interview with ‘Collider‘, it was announced that after the release of the first movie, the following two sequels were scheduled to be released back-to-back in 2020. However, it’s 2022 and we still have no news as to when the second film is gonna hit the screens!

It is for sure that the sequels will premiere but we can’t deduce when. Given the fluctuation in release schedules, it’s probable that the second film can even be postponed further. According to some resources, even the filming was delayed because of the packed schedules of the star cast. Until official notice, we can’t give you guys an exact date. 

But if we were to anticipate the release of Crazy Rich Asians 2, we’d say it would be next year – 2023. Owing to the packed schedules of the cast and the pandemic, it’s less likely that part 2 will hit the screens this year. If it does, Woah, great that! If it does not, guess we’ll just have to wait it out until the production team comes up with an official statement. Stay tuned!

Who’s in the cast of Crazy Rich Asians 2?

Again, there have been no official updates by the showmakers about the cast of Crazy Rich Asians 2. We can assume that most, if not all, of the star cast members, might return. That includes Gemma Chan, Constance Wu, Golding, Awkwafina, Lisa Lu, Ken Jeong, Harry Shum Jr, et al. In addition to these characters returning, there might be numerous other characters who would be a part of Kwan’s sequel but don’t have any part in the first instalment. 

So, in the next season, we might get to see Rachel’s brother, Carlton Bao arriving to further complicate the family dynamics. A bevy of other Asian actors would also be featured in the sequel. We might also witness another crucial character, Colette Bing, a Chinese blogger who is always rocking couture. Fashion was a vital part of the film, it’s likely it would remain an important part in the upcoming sequels as well. However, no casting announcements have been made either for Carlton Bao or Colette Bing. 

As of right now, there hasn’t been an official statement. However, it would be a surprise if the main cast wouldn’t come back. Stay tuned for more updates!

What’s the plot of Crazy Rich Asians 2? *Spoiler Alert* 

Crazy Rich Asians is based on a book written by Kevin Kwan. Consequently, if the sequel follows the books, the second movie will more so focus on Rachel sorting things out with her birth father (who she was told died in a car accident). Then, Rachel seeks a detective to get some help and discovers that not only is her father alive but is the richest man in China.

Next up, she invites her birth dad to her wedding and there she meets her half-brother Carlton, and his girlfriend, Collette. Rachel decides to spend her honeymoon travelling to countries along with her brother and his girlfriend. This comprises the latter part of the story. 

“Crazy Rich Asians” was a surprise blockbuster hit, so in the author’s eyes, a sequel needs to one-up the original. “This needs to be ‘The Godfather 2,'” Kwan said (via Variety). “It needs to be as good, if not better than the first.”
