Coraline 2: Release Date, Cast, and Plot Spoiler

Coraline is an American animated dark fantasy horror movie that came out in 2009. The movie was directed and written by Henry Selick that is heavily inspired by a novella composed by Neil Gaiman of the exact title. Laika produced the movie Coraline and features the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., and Ian McShane.

The movie follows the story of its lead character Coraline who finds out an idealized parallel world behind a hidden door in her new house, unmindful that it surrounds a dark and ominous mystery. Coraline was considered a box success when it was released. The movie collected over $124 million worldwide against a budget of $60 million. It is also worth mentioning that the film was nominated for many awards and won numerous accolades.

Now the question that fans want to know is, will there be a sequel to Coraline? Considering it’s more than a decade since the movie was launched, it’s difficult to predict if there’ll be another Coraline movie. Here’s what we know so far.

Is Coraline 2 Happening Anytime Soon?

Rumors have been going rounds for years about a possible sequel. However, Neil Gaiman himself has personally shut down those rumors.

Back in 2021, one fan asked Gaiman on Twitter regarding the possibilities of a sequel to which he responded “as good as or better than,” indicating that there is no need for a sequel if it couldn’t surpass the performance set by its forebear. Nevertheless, his response somewhat gives us hope that there might be a chance of a sequel happening in the future. Though nothing is confirmed for now.

When Is Coraline 2 Releasing?

There is no official release date for Coraline 2 at the moment. Moreover, there has been no official announcements concerning a sequel to Coraline. It also appears that Neil Gaiman hasn’t started writing on a follow-up story. At this point, expecting a release date is a far cry given Gaiman is yet to start working on a new story.

So whether a sequel will happen or not the decision completely falls upon Gaiman.

Coraline 2 is set to premiere on November 23, 2022. Find the trailer below. (Updated on 21/04/2022)
