Baby Driver 2: Release date, Cast, and more updates

Penned and helmed by Edgar Wright, “Baby Driver” released way back in 2017 was a huge critical success. The movie features Ansel Elgort and Lily James as the main characters along with Jon Hamm, Eiza González, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, and Jon Bernthal playing supporting characters in the film.

Baby Driver was first launched at the Southwest festival on March 11, 2017, and later it was launched on the big screens in the US and the UK on June 28, 2017. The movie was well-received by the audience and critics alike for its impeccable craftsmanship and visuals and raked in a whopping $226.9 million worldwide. The movie also won many notable acclaims and was declared by The National Board of Review as one of the best movies released in 2017.

Following the success of the first movie, speculations already started swirling that a sequel is bound to happen, and soon enough Edgar Wright himself confirmed that he’s indeed working on the story for the sequel since 2018. He informed MTV, “I know basically what it’s about, and who it involves, and where it goes, so that’s exciting.” Wright also ascertained that he’ll be back on the director’s chair to helm the next movie as well. “I’m not going to spend six months writing it and then not directing it.”

So are we going to see the new movie anytime soon? or Is the script not done yet? It’s been over four years since the movie came out and fans are wondering about when the next movie would be released. Let’s find out below.

A Sequel is Happening and the Script is READY!

Yep, you heard it! In 2019, Edgar Wright had his first draft completed and in January 2021, during his interview via Variety, he said, “It’s written … I’ve actually written like three drafts of it.”

So finally, the script is done but it’s probably going to take a while for “Baby Driver 2” to hit the big screens.

Lily James in a chat with NME confessed that she’s been praying for Baby Driver 2 to happen.

She expressed, “I just want to do Baby Driver 2 too.” “I suppose Edgar did,” James told when inquired if she had some clue or information about the upcoming movie’s probable plotline.

Ansel Elgort confirmed to MTV’s Josh Horowitz that he had gone through the draft but isn’t sure about the production schedules but the actor did reveal that a new movie is going to happen but it won’t be titled “Baby Driver 2”.

“I think it’s gonna happen,” but he again added that “It has a different title.” He hastily added, “You’re gonna have to ask Edgar that, though.”

Baby Driver 2 Release Date: When is it?

There is no denying that “Baby Driver” was a big hit but despite the massive success, Edgar Wright showed no interest in making another movie. It’s also because he was engaged with his other movies but he then later revealed that he had completed three drafts of the script for the new movie.

As of now, there is no information regarding production schedules, and expecting a release date for “Baby Driver 2” is a far cry.

Needless to say, even though the release date is not confirmed yet it doesn’t mean that the much-awaited sequel won’t hit the theatres. We assume that the sequel will arrive by the end of this year or sometime in 2023.

The Cast of Baby Driver 2: Who’ll be in it?

The cast members for the upcoming sequel are not yet announced. But fans can expect to see the two core characters Ansel Elgort who played as Miles a.k.a. Baby and Lily James who played as Debora and Baby’s love interest.

As for the supporting characters, it’s not known if they’ll return in the second movie since most of the characters ended up being killed in the first movie. We assume that new characters will likely be introduced to stir up the plot even more. However, these new characters are yet to be revealed.

The Plot of Baby Driver 2: What would happen?

As for the plot, there are no concrete details for now. In the final minutes of the first movie, Baby served his sentence and was required with his lover. The two may start a new chapter in the upcoming movie, however, troubles still lurk and it’s not going to be easy. Well, let’s find out the rest of the story when the sequel is out!
